Kpop Demon Hunters – Track 5 – Strategy | Vocal Coach Reacts

Welcome back. As we continue on our journey looking through the K-pop Demon Hunter soundtrack, we now find ourselves at the song Strategy. For those wondering, uh, hey Jim, yesterday was track three and Golden is track 4. Yes, I understand this. Now, Golden was already done previous to all of this. If you want to go and have a look at that one, uh, the link will be in the description below. But basically, it was the first reaction of the K-pop Demon Hunter stuff that I did before deciding to do the entire soundtrack. So, unfortunately, that one is a little bit out of whack, a little bit out of order. So, what we’re going to do is we’re going to have a listen to strategy today. This is going to be interesting. I’m very keen. The songs have been great so far. So, uh let’s get into this one. Before we begin though, please do leave a like on the video. It really does help. If you have not sub that if you have not subscribed yet, I would highly appreciate it if you did so. But without any further ado, let us have a listen to strategy from K-pop Demon Hunters. Hey boy, I’m real good. Hey boy. Step one, make me shine so bright in the moonlight. Step two, baby looks good, right? Step three will make you look my way with your heart eyes. Step four on the floor. Say more. Ooh, I’m liking this. This is a little bit easier to listen to. And by easier to listen to, I don’t mean like any of them have been difficult. What I mean is more it’s more of an easy listening song in which you can have it on. It’s really just kind of nice. It doesn’t take away too much attention. This is lovely. The harmony works. Uh, we’re back to that intricate harmony work where just everything is so really well thought out and it’s just wonderful. I love how these voices go together as well. It’s truly fantastic. So, I’m going to go back a little bit here. Like that. There was that. I don’t know if that was two or three parts to be honest. Let’s see if I can pick it. Hang on. I think it’s two-part and an octave. I could be wrong. I could be wrong, but it is so cool. Like, it’s it’s not a harmony that a lot of people would think of putting into a song like this, but I’m glad they did it. like whoever whoever’s been writing these is been has been doing a really really good job of just kind of going, “Hey, let’s just throw something a little bit um I don’t want to say unnatural. Let’s throw something in here a little bit unexpected. Let’s go with that.” I’m feeling like you’re attention on me. The reason so me. I ain’t going to fight. Come on over. I know you want to move a little closer. Get ready to get you and me. You strategy is my dream. I never [Music] ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh I need to hear this whole chorus again. Now, the reason being the the way that they’ve done the melody here, the melodic structure that they’ve used, again, something a little bit uncou a little bit un um unexpected. It is really good. Um I can’t even explain it cuz my brain is not working in terms of like proper musicianship right now. But I’ll explain where I’ll explain where where the change is. Hang on. So sh me. I ain’t going to fight. Come on over. I know you want to move a little closer. You better there. My strategy strategy. It’s almost as if almost as if they change key for that. It might just be on an accidental, which is a a chord that is not usually used in the key that they are singing in. But it it I don’t know if they go do they go whole hog and change key. Is that is that what happens? Come on over. I know you want to move a little closer. You better come over with me. No, I think they go to the minor. Okay, so what I think is going on there, I could be wrong. I need to look up the chords for this, but whatever chord it is on, I think the start of that line is in the major and then I think it swaps to the minor. Okay, editor Jim here. I was really close to being right on this during the phrasing of the verses. It is an E minor chord that we are hearing uh at the start of this particular strategy line. It is changed from E minor to E major 7th and then to the E minor 7th in the middle of that bar of music. I was nearly right. I was nearly right. Which is an effect you don’t hear often. Not these days anyway. Music back in the 80s, ‘7s and ‘ 80s would use it far more often and it’s such a lost effect. I love it. I think it’s so good and impactful. I’m sure that’s what’s going on here. You me [Music] and me. I’m I need to look up the lyrics. Hang on. I’m so sorry. [Music] Damn. I can find the chords for almost every other song on the soundtrack and not this one. This one is going to drive me insane. You know what this song reminds me of? Um, I’m probably going to bastardize this cuz I can’t exactly remember how it goes. Um, and I gave you all my love. Would you run to me and call me baby? I can’t remember the the song name. Hopefully that was enough to launch some nostalgia in people’s minds. This is giving me a similar vibe, but I’m pretty sure that same effect in the melody is used in both of those. So, both this and that song. Whatever that other song is, I cannot think of it right now, but oh my god, I love it. I need to hear it again. [Music] My strategy is my dream. You never strategy, baby. I’m going to take you. I want to dance yourself till I’m in your head and you can’t forget you’re feeling so confused. Watch. What you going to do? [Music] See, here’s the thing. I got a bit distracted by the actual animation there cuz it’s actually really really good. Um, but the interesting thing here is that there is some again really intricate harmony work that they have once again taken the song. They’ve they’ve made something complex yet they’ve been able to hide it and make it sound so easily digestible by the by the public. And that is a skill that I don’t really think can be taught. I think that’s a that’s that’s a thing. If you don’t have it, you don’t have that. And I love it. So like the like have have a listen have a listen. [Music] reason like it is not it’s and it’s not the go-to harmony. It is not like it’s how do I how do I word this? Like if you if you just sing a line and you sing a harmony over the top, you’re usually going for the third above which is like well three notes above um essentially right that’s not entirely correct. It’s a very basic explanation, but I feel like in this particular case, due to the scale that that’s not what I’m trying to say is I think it’s an unorthodox uh harmony that works really well. [Music] You’re going to be with me. It is my table. You never want to leave my strategy. Strategy like gravity gravity one. Look at me. Look at me. I be down on your knees calling me up. Making me my strategy. [Music] I’m loving this. The vibe of this is great. Boy, I’mma get you. I’mma get you real good. And I bet you. Okay, so this one is interesting. As I was saying at the start, I feel like this is a more easily listening song. It could be another kind of bridging song. Um although some of the lyrics in there make me think that maybe it’s not a bridge song. This is is a little bit more important. But again, it’s another one where they’ve they they take that complexity of that vocal line and they hide it to make it far more uh accessible to even non-m musicians and like like the general public and they and and people really seem to enjoy it and I’m loving it. I’m absolutely loving that and god it’s the vocal work is so good too. All right, let’s go for some final thoughts on this. This particular song has been really good. It’s definitely different, and that’s something I’m really enjoying is that each of the songs has been so incredibly different to the one before it. It’s um like there there’s hardly any similarity aside from the ability to take something relatively complex and to portray it in a way that people can really accept it and really vibe with it and really like it. And a large part of the reason for that is due to the songwriting aspects. I adore these songs. I’ve so far they’ve been so so good. All of them. And um and I know a lot of people kind of are going to think that I was ragging on Soda Pop a little bit. I just had genuine questions. That’s all that was. I actually did enjoy it. But I won’t lie, I do I do tend to enjoy these ones a little bit more due to the fact that it has a little bit more for me. I don’t think Soda Pop was made for me. And I know that that’s an interesting thing to say. I don’t think it was made for me. Like I know people are going to be upset and think that I was ragging on Sodapop in the last episode. I did actually I did genuinely enjoy it. But I just love the musicianship. I love the vocal work. The animation style is really good and it and it suits it so well. The story that they’re telling through this medium, it’s really really good. Anyway, um I think that’s it for this one. Next, uh next video will be Takeown, I believe. Oh, no. We’ve already done Takeown. Uh anyway, thank you so much for watching. Like a favorite if you enjoyed, subscribed, all that sort of thing. And I’ll see you in the next one. Bye for now.
